Tonic Studios is introducing an innovative new punch line called Ribblets, which allow you to create striking borders incorporating ribbons, eyelets & brads.  4 Ribblet punches are being released at CHA next week.  The design ideas you can come up with using the Ribblets are endless!  The new Tonic release will be expanding on the Border System line as well, introducing 6 more holiday/winter punches.  All the new punches are expected in stores in early September.  At an MSRP of only $7.95 they’ll be an inexpensive addition to your tool collection.

Follow me as I go step by step and walk you through creating this fun scrapbook page.  The Tonic border system adds just the right amount of detail to this simple layout!

Step 1)  Grab some supplies – of course yours will vary depending on your theme.

Tools –  paper trimmer, scissors, adhesive

Cardstock – light blue, yellow & white (plus scraps of pink, orange, green, and dark blue)

2 Patterned Papers

Embellishments – I used sticker letters, rhinestones, 2 lg. flowers, and an epoxy brad

1 – 5X7 photo

Step 2) cut your paper and cardstock to size.

white – 5 1/4 X 7 1/4 (this will be your photo mat)

yellow – 1 – 4 X 12 & 1 – 3 X 12

white – 2 X 10 (this will be for punching your border)

white – 1 1/4 X 10 (this will be at the top of your layout, under your title)

dark blue – 1/2 X 9

floral pattern – 2 X 7 1/4

stripe pattern – 1 X 7 1/4 (stripes are horizontal)

Once all pieces are cut, you can start adhering to your layout.  The light blue will be the background for your page.  Starting with your photo matted on the white cardstock – adhere at a slant with the top left corner 1 1/2″ from the left edge of the page and the bottom left corner 3 1/2″ from the left edge of the page.  You can then adhere your patterned pieces to the right of your photo.  Now add your two pieces of yellow cardstock with the 4″ wide piece on the left edge and the 3″ wide piece on the right edge (these pieces will hang over the edge of your page).  Trim off the excess yellow that is hanging over the edge of your layout.

Step 3)  Grab your Tonic Border System and your Tonic Pinwheels Border Punch and we’ll start on the border.

Line your paper up under the punch at the 3/4″ mark and punch – moving your paper over 1″ each time, punch 9 more times.

Step 4)  Snip the little bits of paper that are linking the punches (see photo below).

Step 5)  Punch 9 circles (appx. 3/4″) from pink, dark blue, green & orange scraps – adhere them behind the punches as shown below.

Step 6)  You can now adhere your border along the bottom edge of your layout and add the 1/2″ strip of dark blue cardstock as shown.

Step 7) Add embellishments as you wish – I added rhinestones to the center of each flower in my border, a large flower with an epoxy brad, and sticker letters.

Enjoy!!
